Ground Fighting
Ground Fighting: Understanding ground fighting takes on a completely different meaning on the street
"In MMA, due to the duration of matches there will be times when you will need go to the ground, even with a solid take down defense. Therefore, you do need a "ground game" for the sport. It doesn't need to be Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but have a good understanding of how to use and move your body structure in various ground positions is necessary.
In contrast, the short time frame of a real-life assault / life preservation situation severely minimizes the need for time spent understanding ground positions. If you end up going to the ground, get up. Don't stay there. If you can't get up, attack the groin, gouge the eyes and/or bite the veins/arteries. These are your equalizers. A good "ground game" and strong understanding of ground positions isn't really necessary."
