Imitate, Emulate and Innovate!
"In the beginning, you'll imitate in order to try to understand. But in the end, you aren't supposed to walk how I walk. I'm not looking to create followers. I'm here to help you free yourself from following in the footsteps of others. Don't let my limitations or anyone else's become your limitations. You must be willing to go further than what you see or hear. Seek more for yourself. Find the truth for yourself.
However, truth is a paradox. Underestimating how long the beginning can take is a common mistake. Those that haven't dedicated the many necessary years listening, imitating and ingraining the fundamentals won't understand. They won't know enough in order to free themselves from them. They will try to innovate too soon in order to truly make any progress. Feeling a lack in something, instead of correctly attributing it to their own lack of understanding, they'll want to add something that they think is better for the sake of not knowing. True innovation can only come after years of emulation."
