Dana Point Martial Arts School Grand Opening (An OC Register Reprint)
This is a reprint of the original OC Register article, Free Kung Fu Lessons at Dana Point Martial Arts School.
A new kung fu school in Dana Point teaching the Chinese martial art wing chun plans to offer free lessons to the first 100 people who attend its public grand-opening event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 19.
The Dragon Institute will offer the lessons (one per family) at an event that also will include a blindfolded kung fu demonstration and giveaways such as wing chun DVDs and T-shirts.
The institute, which calls itself the only wing chun facility in Orange County, will open its doors to the business community Thursday with demonstrations, giveaways and networking. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for noon, with Dana Point Mayor Steven Weinberg and Councilman Joel Bishop attending with owner Adam Williss.
Wing chun has been taught to military and law-enforcement agencies around the world, including the Navy SEALs, the FBI and CIA, according to the Dragon Institute. It is a self-defense system intended to finish a fight as quickly as possible.
The institute, 34241 Pacific Coast Highway, offers classes to adults and children 4 and older. For more information, call 949-939-4117.
