The Spirit of Wing Chun

When teaching his students in Hong Kong over 60 years ago, Ip Man is known to have said, “Regardless of who starts first, ability decides seniority in Wing Chun.” 

With this statement, we believe Ip Man was trying to tell his students that respect simply for tradition’s sake is not part of the Wing Chun lineage that he wanted to create. 

We believe Ip Man meant that only application can verify theory and that if you want seniority, you have to be willing to work harder than the next person. This is the Spirit of Wing Chun, truth and hard work.
