Kim Sut
One of the necessities of a good Wing Chun stance is Kim Sut. The knees should sink in and downward. If you see others so-called "masters" on youtube and other places without it, you know it isn't good Wing Chun. According to Sifu Zopa Gyatso, "Leung Jan was a stickler for kim sut! So too, was Yuen Kay San!" Once developed, a student can move very quickly while rooting, sinking and maintaining kim sut.

Kim Sut is indispensable for a number of reasons.
- It's used to suction cup yourself to the ground in order to root yourself and maintain balance when being pushed or pulled.
- It draws energy into your center up from the ground.
- It's a shock absorber, something normally handled by the spine.
- Having the knees pulled in protects the groin from lifting kicks.
- It's used when pivoting from one side to the other. In a good Wing Chun pivot, the knees should initiate the action providing you optimal torque and a faster, stronger, more stable and more fluid stance.
