Bil Jee 鏢指

Most people who are getting into Wing Chun don't understand the purpose of the 3rd set, called Bil Jee (Biu Gee, Biu Tze). In fact, many who've been practicing Wing Chun for years still don't understand it. They think Bil Jee is the secret form of Wing Chun that teaches the deadly techniques of the system only to be taught to the most loyal students.

What they don't get is that Bil Jee deviates the most from what Wing Chun tries to teach. Bil Jee is a form that practices recovery-based movements only to be used after the more efficient framework of movements taught in Siu Nim Tau and Chum Kiu have failed you. Bil Jee assumes that you have made several mistakes in your Wing Chun responses to a situation and then have to resort to the bigger movements of Bil Jee in order to regain your good structure. It uses movements that diverge from the centerline and can be seen as guidelines on what to do if your structure/position is compromised. It begins from the time that you've been overpowered, out-positioned, possibly injured or surprised. Therefore, Bil Jee is outside the regular framework of what is considered a simple Wing Chun response.

In the end, it isn't some mysterious form with hidden, deadly techniques. It also isn't really the most advanced form. Its the "I did everything wrong leading up to this point" form. Therefore in many ways it could be viewed as a beginner's form.
