Rebellion Against Mainstream Martial Arts
Rebellion against the mainstream methods of martial arts is something that carries strong with our group. We refuse to let the complicated, theoretical, BS of conventional martial arts into our thoughts or practices.
Conventional martial arts tell us that if you learn an art for many years and that if you earn a black belt you are an expert and can handle conflicts on the street. Quite frankly, that just isn't true. In fact, most martial arts black belts would have their fannies handed to them if ambushed by someone.
Don't get me wrong. I love martial arts, whether they are traditional martial arts or modern combat sports. However, in a real world fight, if you have to think, its too late. What happens is your muscle memory (physiology) will respond, not your logic/cognition (complex motor skills). So all your training based on if they do this, I do that, won't work
The reality is that we must rely upon muscle memory. You have to train in order to change the way you flinch. Instead of the natural physiological response of going into defensive mode, you have to retrain your muscle memory to immediately put the attacker on the defensive.
Once contact is made. more muscle memory has to go into effect. That's why tactile awareness training (chi sao) is so important. You must train your sense of feel to levels that allow your body to take over, rather than your mind.
This is the neuroscience of self-defense. It isn't about tradition and it isn't about sport. Its about what works in reality.
Whether its against a combat sports mentality or a traditional ritualistic mentality, we promise to keep the rebellion strong.
