Distances of Self-Defense

Acknowledging all of the distances that are part of a self-defense situation is very important.

1st Distance: Kicking
2nd Distance: Hands
3rd Distance: Knees And Elbows
4th Distance: Grappling (Holding, Barring, Throwing, etc.)
5th Distance: Ground Fighting

Understanding these distances and knowing how to position yourself correctly for leverage in these distances will ultimately determine your success or failure.

In any distance, Wing Chun principles can be applied successfully, which is why so many martial arts practitioners turn to Wing Chun after years of studying other arts.
